WATCHTOWER

WATCHTOWER was a collaboration between Jose Hernandez, Ginger Krebs, Bryan Saner, Sara Zalek, and me from 2011-2012. Our work together culminated in this self-titled performance video, which was shot on location at New Capital Projects and then shown at New Capital for the 24/25 festival in June 2012. The following is a selection from WATCHTOWER’S collaborative artist statement:

WATCHTOWER is a collaborative performance ensemble. We move and use the body in alternative ways in order to challenge its domestication. We inhabit societally abnormal behaviors, for example the body as animal, aging, multi-gendered, deformed and full of contradictions. The decision to be in relation to otherness is central to the work we make. We create a way of being that allows us to be ourselves in good faith with each other and this practice is healing. Our work is responsive rather than scripted. We prioritize taking time and attending to place.
